In this workshop students learn improvisational rules and technique in order to explore the intricate connections between dance and music. Amara teaches how to listen to music in order to become a visual presentation. There can be a focus on Turkish or Arab music. |
Taksim
Through a guided exploration in speed, size, weight changes and efforts, students can embody and portray the music while expanding their current vocabulary. |
Drum Solos
Students learn the intricacies of what makes up a drum solo by exploring concepts and rhythms. There can be a focus of live music or CD. |
Full Routines
Students learn the overall structure of a multi-part routine. Amara teaches what moves go where, when to enter and exit as well as the transitions in-between. |

| The workshop is geared towards methods that can be incorporated into a number of Middle Eastern dance styles. Topics cover kinesiological effectiveness of warm up, cold downs, and stretches, leaning style theory, cultural adaptation of movement instruction, and structuring creative movement exploration. Students will work on defining their personal philosophy of dance education and pedagogical style. |
